My Wound Won’t Heal: What to Do

Is Your Wound Infected?

Do you have a wound that just won’t heal? Chances are, you may have an infected wound. Once infected, wounds can be difficult to clear up and heal. If you are ready to clear up your wound once and for all or find a treatment that finally works, this blog is for you. Keep reading to learn more about skin infections, signs of an infected wound, and how a Skin Infection Clinical Study can give you access to brand-new investigational wound treatments.

Understanding Skin Infections

Skin infections can occur through unhealed wounds when germs enter and spread. Skin infections can cause a host of symptoms that are uncomfortable and difficult to deal with.

There are many dangers to leaving an infected wound untreated. They include:

  • Sepsis
  • Tissue damage or tissue death
  • Abscesses
  • Risk of scar
  • Risk of spreading to other parts of the body

Infected wounds can be especially dangerous for certain people, including people who are immunocompromised, have diabetes, are obese, have certain vitamin deficiencies, or older adults.

Signs of an Infected Wound

Wondering if your annoying wound that just won’t heal is, in fact, infected? Here are the signs of an infected wound:

  • Pus or cloudy fluid is draining from the wound.
  • Pimple or yellow crust has formed on the wound.
  • Soft Scab that has increased in size.
  • Red Area increasing around the wound.
  • Red Streak is spreading from the wound toward the heart.
  • More Pain. The wound has become very tender.
  • More Swelling. Pain or swelling increases 48 hours after the wound occurred.
  • Swollen Node. The lymph node draining that area of skin may become large and tender.
  • Fever occurs.
  • The wound hasn’t healed within 10 days after the injury.

Seek help immediately if you notice these signs:

  • Not moving or too weak to stand
  • Fever occurs
  • Red streak runs from the wound
  • Spreading redness around the wound
  • Severe pain in the wound
  • Any face wound with signs of infection
  • No past tetanus shots. Note: tetanus is the “T” in DTaP, TdaP, or Td vaccines.
  • Looks or acts very sick
  • Pus or cloudy drainage from the wound
  • The wound gets more painful or tender after 2 days
